Are you gonna miss the Big Gig on Monday?

Will you miss Summerfest on the Fourth?

Summerfest, for the first time, will be closed on the Fourth of July because, according to officials, the holiday attracts fewer festgoers than the other days. Plus, this year, it falls on a Monday which is usually a slow business day at the Big Gig anyway.

Summerfest will be open on Independence Day in 2012 because it falls on a Wednesday, due to a leap year.

I understand the reasoning behind Summerfest not being open on the Fourth, but a part of me feels like the patriotic holiday and Summerfest are as synonymous as the Fourth of July and grilled hot dogs. (And, come to think of it, barking dogs are pretty synonymous with this fire-crackery holiday, too.)

Even though I rarely attended Summerfest on the Fourth of July, I think I liked knowing it was out there. Ya know?

I agree, Molly. I've gone to Summerfest many times on the 4th and it was packed. Their "reasoning" for being open next year is hilarious. Why don't they just admit that they screwed up and realized how much money they're losing this year by not being open on the 4th. It even sounds stupid on their commercials "Closed Monday". Stay open on the 4th already!!!!
