Summerfest looking for songwriters

Listen up, Milwaukee songwriters, the Big Gig wants to hear from you.

Summerfest officials today announced the Summerfest Songwriters Project, a viral video contest that lets Summerfest fans express their love for the "world's largest music festival."

Songwriters can create their best "Let's Fest" song between 30 seconds and five minutes long the song can be in any form (jingles, cheers, rap, spoken-word poetry, ballads, guitar solos and more) but you have to upload your video to summerfest.com/songwritersproject by May 31.

Summerfest staff will review the submissions and announce five finalists on June 8. Members of the public will then vote for their favorite submission through June 13 with the winner announced on June 14.

The grand prize winner will receive $1,000, a pair of tickets to the Amphitheater show of their choice, free admission for every day of Summerfest 2011, a $250 Summerfest gift card and the chance for their song to be used in Summerfest's marketing efforts.

Everyone who enters the contest will receive a free ticket to Summerfest's opening day and the five finalists will receive a four-pack of opening day tickets, four additional general admission tickets and other Summerfest items.
