Summerfest announced a plethora of ground stage headliners a few weeks back, but there was still plenty of work to be done, namely filling the three slots currently still open at the Marcus Amphitheater. Well, this morning, they filled one of those massive empty spaces on the schedule with a sufficiently massive name.

Usher, along with special guest Bebe Rexha, will take the Marcus Amphitheater stage to close out the Big Gig on Sunday, July 6. The concert – his first visit to Milwaukee since his Summerfest gig all the way back in 2010, as well as currently the only U.S. stop on the summer schedule for the R&B hitmaker – certainly qualifies as a genuine event for the music festival.

After getting his start on "Star Search," Usher turned into one of the hottest artists of the last decade, churning out smooth Top 40 R&B and dance hits like "U Got It Bad," "Burn," "Yeah!," "Confessions," "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" and "OMG."

Usher's next album is currently set for release this fall. In the meantime, however, he's been passing time as a coach on NBC's "The Voice," as well as filming a role as boxer Sugar Ray Leonard in the upcoming Roberto Duran biopic "Hands of Stone" (he also made a cameo appearance in "Muppets Most Wanted" as – wait for it – an usher).

He also helped turn Justin Bieber into a superstar. Oops.

The odds are good, however, that the Summerfest crowd can forgive him that ghastly misstep in the name of a good show. Meanwhile, word is still out on who fill the final two Marcus Amphitheater headliner spots, scheduled for June 28 and July 1.

Tickets for the concert go on sale Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Summerfest box office, Ticketmaster ticket centers, Walmart stores, online at Ticketmaster.com and by phone, either by live Ticketmaster agent (1-800-745-3000) or by Ticketmaster Express automated phone line (1-866-448-7849). As usual, Summerfest admission is included with a ticket purchase.

Summerfest runs June 25-29, then picks back up July 1-6.
