Gelder's "Holiday Magic" CD brings smiles to hospitalized kids
Five holiday seasons ago, we wrote about Jeff Gelder's "Holiday Magic" CD series.
The San Diego-based Gelder, an on-air radio personality and voiceover pro, has been writing, recording and producing "Holiday Magic" for nearly a decade now, benefiting Children's Hospitals around the country.
This year's installment of songs and stories is the 10th in the series. More than 6,000 copies will go to hospitals across the nation and in London and Singapore to help brighten the holidays of children who will spend the season in the hospital.
In 2006, we hooked up Gelder with Children's in Milwaukee and each year he's sent more and more CDs here.
Recently, Gelder e-mailed to tell us that nearly 250 CDs are headed to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin this year.
In addition to organizing all of the donated talent and doing the production work, Gelder raises funds to get the CDs into the hands of those kids.
"This is a labor of love that is received with much joy by children who are unfortunately spending the holiday season in the hospital and their siblings, who often crave attention due to so much being given to the ailing member of their family," Gelder told OnMilwaukee.com.
The 2012 edition has stories and songs and includes appearances by Austin Bryant of Boston band Brothers Royale, and Canada's Double Divas, among others.
The CD streams online in its entirety every Sunday night in December on RadioFreeJMT.com.
Buy a copy for $15 and the proceeds underwrite the cost of creating the CD and donating them to hospitals. The more CDs sold, the more kids that can get one for free.
Gelder also accepts submissions for future CDs and is always seeking donations and volunteer talent.
