"Holiday Magic" aims to bring smiles to kids spending the holidays in the hospital.

Gelder's "Holiday Magic" CD brings smiles to hospitalized kids

Nearly a decade ago ago, we wrote about Jeff Gelder's "Holiday Magic" CD series.

The San Diego-based Gelder, an on-air radio personality and voiceover pro, has been writing, recording and producing "Holiday Magic" for more than a decade now, benefiting Children's Hospitals around the country. In 2011 he formed The Children's Holiday Magic Project, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt not for profit organization.

This year's installment of songs and stories is the 12th in the series. About 10,000 copies will go to hospitals across the nation, in London and Newcastle Upon Tyne, England and Singapore, Asia, to help brighten the holidays of children who will spend the season in the hospital.

In 2006, we hooked up Gelder with Children's Hospital in Milwaukee and each year he's sent more and more CDs here.

Recently, Gelder e-mailed to tell us that between 150 and 240 CDs are headed to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin this year.

In addition to organizing all of the donated talent and doing the production work, Gelder and his team of elves raise funds to get the CDs into the hands of those kids.

"Our goal is to brighten the season for families who are spending the holidays in children's hospitals," said Gelder. "This is a labor of love that is received with much joy by children who are unfortunately spending the holiday season in a hospital setting."

Past talent has included Broadway actress and singer Ashley Fox Linton, renowned Hollywood voice-over talent Marc Graue, award-winning actress and singer Nichelle Nichols (who portrayed Lt. Uhura on television's "Star Trek") and her sister, actress Marian Michaels.

The CD streams online in its entirety every Sunday night in December on RadioFreeJMT.com.

Gelder also accepts submissions for future CDs and is always seeking donations and volunteer talent.

If you'd like to learn more about the CD project and Gelders's work, visit HolidayMagicCD.org, where you can also click on "Make a Donation" to help further the distribution of the CDs to more deserving kids.
