At Steinhafels, design isn’t merely a job – it’s a passion. That passion for helping people create the homes of their dreams is truly evident in our featured "Before and After" piece this month.  We look at a family that lost everything ... but took that loss and created something beautiful.

We are proud to partner with OnMilwaukee on these monthly "Before and After" articles. They are a great way for readers to see how our Decorating Solutions Interior Designers can use their skills to help homeowners in many different situations.

This month’s featured designer is Rhonda Vivoda from our Corporate Store in Waukesha.  Rhonda has more than 12 years of design experience, and has worked on hundreds of homes.  Her favorite style is transitional, because she loves mixing different styles to create a truly unique space.

Before

For this project, Rhonda explains, "The family pretty much lost everything on their first floor due to a house fire. It had to be taken down to the studs and redone. They wanted more of an open concept, a neutral color palette, and they wanted something that looked nice, yet was comfortable and inviting. They also needed the decor to hold up to their two pet labs! They didn't have a specific style – they liked everything from the farmhouse look to a little bit more modern and eclectic."

After

Rhonda talks about some of her favorite pieces. "We achieved this look by keeping all the paint colors very neutral and just added a wall with a little darker color to give some contrast."

The Bently 2-piece sectional can be fully customized (including a choice of over 700 fabrics) to fit your home. The Capri sofa console table features a lovely contrast between the metal and stone.

"We went with a leather sectional for 'doggie durability' and then added some accent chairs and pillows in a patterned upholstery for a different texture and some color. We went with two of the same rugs to keep some consistency for that open concept feeling. We also used some accent pieces made of the reclaimed wood, along with end tables with mixed materials of metal, wood, and marble to fit that eclectic style that the customers liked.

The Amelia gate nicely matches the Railroad wine cabinet. Each Asha accent cabinet is one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted from materials reclaimed from old shipyards and buildings.

"Finally, we added accessories like frames, greenery, vases, etc. to give that warm and inviting feeling!"
