John Axford and his glorious 'stache will be featured on a bobblehead this season.

Brewers preview, 2011: Bobbleheads highlight promotional schedule

Maybe as much as Bernie Brewer, the Racing Sausages and tape-measure home runs, the Brewers are known for bobbleheads.

No team in Major League Baseball gives away more of the popular collectibles than the Brewers, who have six all-fan bobblehead giveaways on the 2011 schedule.

"We're the king of bobblehead purchasing," says Brewers Vice President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger. "The company we order from always gives us a gold star and the royal treatment because we order hundreds of thousands of them every year."

This year, closer John Axford (April 24), third baseman Casey McGehee (May 22), Greinke (June 12), the Racing Hot Dog (July 12), infielder Craig Counsell (Aug. 14) and pitcher Randy Wolf (Sept. 25) will be featured on the popular dolls.

The annual bobblehead days are among the most popular dates for fans. All six dates this season are approaching sellouts.

In addition to bobbleheads, the Brewers have numerous other giveaway days lined up for fans in 2011, including the annual magnetic schedules given away on opening day, and roll-out pen schedule April 8 and a full set of Brewers baseball cards on May 21. Various companies and attractions, like Discovery World, the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Valvoline Instant Oil Change and Kwik Trip, will also hand out discount coupons throughout the season.

Giveaways aren't the only promotional events on the schedule. Singles can meet and mingle during Singles Night (an event sponsored by OnMilwaukee.com) on April 25. If you're handy with a ball of yarn, you can enjoy a game with your fellow needle artists on Stich N' Pitch Night, June 21 against Tampa Bay.

The annual Cerveceros Day, honoring the Hispanic Community, comes on June 11 and the Negro League Game is set for July 9. The Brewers will also honor Milwaukee's rich German influence this year with German Heritage Day on Aug. 14. The team will wear jerseys that say "Bierbrauer" while the visiting Pirates' jerseys will say "Piraten." That day is also Craig Counsell bobblehead day.

Tickets for Brewers games can be purchased in person at Miller Park, online at brewers.com or by calling (414) 902-4000.
