The Milwaukee Admirals on Tuesday announced their schedule for the 2017-18 AHL season, their second back at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Led by sixth-year head coach Dean Evason, the Admirals will start the campaign on the road against the Iowa Wild on Saturday, Oct. 7. Milwaukee will open the home portion of its schedule on Friday, Oct. 20 against the Hershey Bears, followed the next night by a home contest vs. the Rockford IceHogs. The Wild will bookend the Admirals’ 76-game schedule, as Milwaukee hosts Iowa on April 14 to conclude the regular season.

A year ago, the Panther Arena underwent $6.3 million in upgrades that included new locker rooms and improvements to bathrooms and concessions, as well as an addition to the merchandise store. Before returning to the venue in 2016, the Admirals last played at the Panther Arena – then called the MECCA – in 1987, before beginning a 28-year run at the Bradley Center.

Once again this year, the Admirals will play two school-day games. The first will be on Wednesday, Nov. 8 against Chicago; the second on Wednesday, March 7 against Manitoba. Both games are expected to feature more than 7,000 school-age kids and will have a 10:30 a.m. puck drop.

The Admirals’ schedule is fairly balanced from a home-road perspective. The team’s longest homestand is only four games, which they will have three times (Dec. 27-Jan. 5, Feb. 10-Feb. 16, and March 4-10); Milwaukee will have two four-game road trips (Dec. 16-23 and Feb. 19-24). March is the busiest calendar month of the season, with 14 games, while the Admirals will play 13 contests in December, including two Amtrak Rivalry games against Chicago during Christmas Week.

For all Monday through Friday home games, the puck will drop at 7 p.m., with the exception of the school-day games. All Saturday night home contests will start at 6 p.m., except for Jan. 27 (7:30 p.m. puck drop) and Feb. 10 (7 p.m.).

Individual tickets for next season will go on sale at a future date, but season tickets are available now. For more information, or to purchase season tickets, visit milwaukeeadmirals.com or call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550.

Born in Milwaukee but a product of Shorewood High School (go ‘Hounds!) and Northwestern University (go ‘Cats!), Jimmy never knew the schoolboy bliss of cheering for a winning football, basketball or baseball team. So he ditched being a fan in order to cover sports professionally - occasionally objectively, always passionately. He's lived in Chicago, New York and Dallas, but now resides again in his beloved Brew City and is an ardent attacker of the notorious Milwaukee Inferiority Complex.

After interning at print publications like Birds and Blooms (official motto: "America's #1 backyard birding and gardening magazine!"), Sports Illustrated (unofficial motto: "Subscribe and save up to 90% off the cover price!") and The Dallas Morning News (a newspaper!), Jimmy worked for web outlets like CBSSports.com, where he was a Packers beat reporter, and FOX Sports Wisconsin, where he managed digital content. He's a proponent and frequent user of em dashes, parenthetical asides, descriptive appositives and, really, anything that makes his sentences longer and more needlessly complex.

Jimmy appreciates references to late '90s Brewers and Bucks players and is the curator of the unofficial John Jaha Hall of Fame. He also enjoys running, biking and soccer, but isn't too annoying about them. He writes about sports - both mainstream and unconventional - and non-sports, including history, music, food, art and even golf (just kidding!), and welcomes reader suggestions for off-the-beaten-path story ideas.
