There are people who are apparently seriously suggesting that fans stay away from Miller Park now that the team doesn't have anything to play for.

The suggestion comes from the usual suspects in cases of psychotic mental masturbation. Simply put, these people are fools.

Let's say your kid had a bad year in school – do you wash your hands of your child? Of course not. And the Brewers are kind of like our kids. We root for them. We pay money to support them. We know their names. They make us laugh, cry and be proud. Just like our kids.

Which brings me to the three new members of the Milwaukee Brewers family. Players who've come our way in the Zack Greinke trade.

Juan Segura is a 22-year-old shortstop. Johnny Hellweg is a 23-year-old pitcher. Ariel Pena is a 23-year-old pitcher.

Let me say up front that I had never heard of these guys until the trade was announced. I still don't think I have their names memorized. Not only are they total strangers, I also don't know a thing about them as players, except what I read.

They say Segura may have to be moved to second base because there is some question about whether he's got good hands. Gee, a second baseman with hands of lead. Sound familiar?

Helwig and Pena are both pitchers who have major league heat. Each is within spitting distance of the 100 mph mark. Hellweg has a history of wildness. Pena is one of those guys who rears all the way back and lets it go. Lots of effort and he'll probably be a relief pitcher.

Nobody would ever confuse me with a major league general manager, but I've got an idea that at least might bear some consideration: Bring those three guys up to the majors now and let's see how they do.

Let's face it. This season is now lost. And fans could use something beside blind support as a reason to head out to the ballpark. I'm sure the club with have lots of special food days, bubbleheads of everyone who hasn't had one yet, increased focus on those dancing girls and a chance to sit next to Front Row Amy in order to lure fans out.

Those are all good promotions, but how about the chance to watch the three kids who have just joined us in one of the biggest trades the Brewers have ever made?

We don't need to have exceptional expectations for these guys. But we can see how they handle themselves. Rickie Weeks could sit down for the rest of his season from hell. The three rookies would get a taste of the big leagues Brewers style. And it would give all of us a dose of excitement.

Excitement has been missing pretty much this year, and finding a way to show off new talent and give us some thrills might be a pretty good way to end the season.
