Sometimes, the little gems on TV get overlooked. There are a number of little programs on cable outlets that exist if only seemingly to be a little absurd.

"Dinner With Friends With Brett Gelman and Friends" on Adult Swim is one of those shows. It has its funny moments, but it is when it is trying too hard to be funny and fails, it becomes brilliant.

In a recent promotion sent my way from the people awake in the late hours of the Cartoon Network, they summoned actor Tony Roberts ("Annie Hall," "Serpico"). Roberts is a wonderful stage actor, and has a trademark of playing a best friend role in Woody Allen films. He’s versatile and has performed as more than three different characters in different seasons of the nine years "Law & Order" was on the air.

Actress and Tony Award-winner Patti LuPone will also be on the next special with Gelmen and Roberts. She’s a constantly working actress, but I’ll always remember her as being Corky and Becca’s mom on "Life Goes On."

The wonderful thing about stage actors that find their ways into movies and television, is that they can do absurdity well, and that is something that will make Gelman’s latest effort worth the watch.

This one, called "Dinner With Family With Brett Gelman And Brett Gelman's Family" is set to air at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 13.

CHANGES: Last week, the lineup was changed at WRNW-FM 97.3. Here is what the RadioNOW schedule looks like:

5 a.m. to 9 a.m. – Elvis Duran & The 97-3 Morning Show
9 a.m. to noon – Katie Sommers
Noon to 4 p.m. – Ridder
4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Brett Andrews
7 p.m. to 10 p.m. – Romeo On The Radio
10 p.m. to 1 a.m. – Aaron Rogers

"I’m pleased to announce the addition of two new local shows to our daily lineup (Andrews & Rogers), solidifying an almost entirely Wisconsin born and raised staff of talented pop jocks and anchored by Elvis Duran and his talented team in NYC," new program director Brett Andrews said.

Personalities can drive radio shows, but at iHeartMedia’s pop station, the on air team plays a different role.

"In a format like Top 40/Pop, the music is the star, and the personalities provide the companionship," Andrews said.

"For 97-3 RadioNOW, the jocks sprinkle personality into the music presentation," Andrews continued. "One of the great parts of the staff we've assembled is the fact that most of us were born and raised in Wisconsin, so we have a unique perspective on what matters to 20-30 year olds living and working and playing in Southeast Wisconsin.

"But again, we're just the icing on the Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Maroon 5 cake."
