Looking to open up salary cap space, the Bucks have reportedly agreed to a deal that will send forward Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs.
ESPN.com's Chad Ford reported the deal early this afternoon and said an official announcement would come later in the day.
The Bucks acquired Jefferson nearly a year ago in a draft-day deal that sent Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons to New Jersey. He appeared in all 82 games with Milwaukee, averaging 19.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
In return for Jefferson, the Bucks would receive Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, Fabricio Oberto and -- most importantly -- about $3 million in savings from Jefferson's contract. In addition, Bowen's 2009-10 contract is not guaranteed, meaning he could be released by the Bucks, bringing an additional $4 million in savings.
With the Bucks expected to use the 10th overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft on a point guard, that money could in turn be used to sign forward Charlie Villanueva, a restricted free agent.

Macha-What in the world makes you think Wade would ever come play for the Bucks? Not sure if that was sarcasm, or just a pipe dream, but that is never happening. They had to trade RJ because they cant pay him and Redd, what makes you think they could afford Wade when he will command a bigger salary then Redd does? The Bucks are going no where untill they dump Michael Redd somehow. He is not a top n otch player, but we panicked and paid him like one.

Hopefully, this means they pass on a point guard this year and grab the big kid from Arizona, Jordan Hill. Then, next year bring D-Wade back to Milwaukee and get back to the playoffs. Go Deer!

And Milwaukee is one step closer to selling it's NBA team to another city. With all three players we get from this trade having their contracts expire after the 09-10 season we are either losing the Bucks, or plan on signing KG and LJ. What way do you think it is going to go?

Trust John Hammond, dude is the Bucks version of Doug Melvin. He knows what he's doing. These Spurs guys might not be long for Milwaukee. I will, though, miss RJ.

GREAT! The bucks trade top draft choice Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons to get Richard Jefferson, then quickly trade away Jefferson. That was fun. This year we just shoulnt but any lottery balls in the draft and save ourself some paperwork.
