The number four is a lucky one in the annals of Wisconsin sports, unfortunately for the next generation of professional athletes, nobody will ever be able to wear it again.

As Drew Olson pointed out a few days ago, two of the state's three major league sports teams honored former players that wore the No. 4 by retiring their numbers. A third will do so in the near future.

Brett Favre will no doubt see his number placed on the "Ring of Honor" at Lambeau Field sometime in the next few years. He'll join the Bucks' Sidney Moncrief, who wore the number from 1979-'89. The Bucks hung his number from the Bradley Center rafters on Jan. 6, 1990 and was recently re-dedicated in honor of the team's 40th anniversary.

The Brewers retired Paul Molitor's No. 4 during ceremonies on June 11, 1999. He played in Milwaukee from 1978-'92 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. Hank Aaron, who played a majority of his career with the Milwaukee Braves and ended his career with a two-year stint as a Brewer, also had his number, No. 44, retired by the team.

Currently, the Wave's Adam West, Marquette basketball player Patrick Hazel and UWM hoopster Deion James wear the number. Former Admirals defenseman Ville Koistinen wore the No. 4 on his sweater last season. Sam Okey wore the number during his infamous tenure with the Wisconsin basketball program.
