Editor's note: To read Drew Olson's counterpoint, click here.

If there is anybody left who thinks that the 2009 Packers, or the 2008 Packers, or maybe even the 2010 Packers are better with Aaron Rodgers than Brett Favre, let them stand up and be counted, on the fingers of one hand.

There is no longer a shadow of doubt. One is a classy, savvy expert with a full house, aces over jacks. The other is sitting at the table with a pair of sixes and not much bluff. One is the quarterback of a team that is 7-1 and may well be the best team in football. The other, coming off a 6-10 season, has his team at 4-3, with victories over St. Louis, Detroit and Cleveland to his credit.

Nobody is here to bash Aaron Rodgers. He's a nice guy and a quarterback with some real ability. But, he is not Brett Favre. Not now. Not ever.

And if your goal in life is for the Packers to win football games, nobody can possibly think that the task is easier with Rodgers than Favre. Now or ever.

You can blame the offensive line and the special teams and the play calling and the dropped passes and the bad calls and the penalties. But even with all of that, if Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy want to win games, they should never have gotten rid of Favre. When he wanted to return, they should have welcomed him with open arms.

Favre is great, not just because of all the big stuff he does, but because of the little things he does. Things like coming out to boos from a crowd of nuts and then just grinning and winking at a teammate. Things like going to Greg Jennings, who may be hurt alongside the Vikings sideline and showing his concern and giving him a little razz when Jennings gets up. Jennings smiles back. Things like walking off the field near the very end of the game and having the field judge give Favre a pat on his hand.

Little things like that. Championship things. Things that a king does.

This man is a king. In a pregame interview with Terry Bradshaw, Bradshaw told Favre that "I've only called one quarterback great in my life. And that's you. That word is very special to me and you are the only one who deserves it."

I don't think Terry Bradshaw is some oracle, but I can tell you that he was a great quarterback and he knows what he's talking about. Favre's Vikings are better than Rodgers' Packers. But a big part of the reason is because Favre is better than Rodgers. By a big margin.

I've said all along that I think Rodgers is the kind of quarterback who can rack up great numbers, but he's not a winning quarterback. I remain unchanged in that opinion. His individual stats are spectacular. His team is 10-13 under his guidance.

I've also got to mention the thousands of Packer fans who booed Favre both before and in the early going of the game Sunday.

These people seem to forget that before he showed up on our doorstep, the Packers had been through the eras of Phil Bengston, Dan Devine, Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg and Lindy Infante. During that time, the Packers were 147-203. We spent decades in Siberia and it was Favre, more than anyone else, who led us into a warmer clime.

Those people who booed him Sunday must have been drunk. Or something.

Anybody with an ounce of sense would have taken the opportunity to say thanks for all those great years. We really appreciate what you did while you were here and we wish you well, except for today.

Those people who booed brought shame to Packer Nation.

There also must be some words for McCarthy and what he has wrought in Green Bay. He has a team that still can't figure out how to run the football or how to play special teams. The team still can't play without stupid penalties. Not all of that, of course, is his fault. But, some of it is. Maybe even most of it.

A big part of football is motivation and the development of character and heart and discipline. You could make a pretty good case that the Packers are short on motivation, character, heart and discipline. And those things can pretty clearly be laid at the doorstep of the head coach.

The best thing about Ron Wolf was that when he made a mistake, he didn't live with it. He admitted it and made a change. So far, Ted Thompson hasn't admitted anything at all. But if the Packers season continues along the way it's gone so far, he may face making a decision that he made a mistake in making McCarthy the head coach.

Now, that's a controversy we can all get our arms around.

The only "word vomit" comes from you. Every website has a troll, and you are clearly omc's. You are a hyprocrite, but try to justify your actions by saying my blogs were worthy of being "picked apart". You made very personal attacks towards me that were unwarranted. I'm convinced that you have more than one handle on this website, and get a kick out of trying to tick people off. Who takes the time to count how many posts a person has? You even searched for a blog that I had written several months ago, just to make a stupid point. Let me tell you something, you're no sandstorm. At least when he insulted someone, he did it with class and intelligence. You result to petty cheap shots. I used to have anger towards you, now I just think you're pathetic. I don't regret writing any of my blogs. I was honest and open, even when I knew the troll of omc would be there to spread his words of widom. It's sad that a grown man gets such pleasure out of being an ass.

Great column, Dave. The people who boo Favre have self-esteem problems.

Shcro1, I am guilty of what you say (I am crying on the inside). That is because everything you have put up is word vomit and deserved to picked apart and ridiculed. And I will do it again in a heartbeat. Broner, I understand your dislike for Dave. He is wishy washy and some of his points are not very valid. Sorry about the Mom's basement crack. Maybe just get on him for the major things you disagree with and not every last thing. Sometimes less is more. Sandstorm, you do have more posts then anyone. Some I find hilarious and agree with and some I do not. I am not sure what "banging strange" is, get paid fairly well but not that kind of cash, talk with my mother at least once a week (can't visit because of distance that often), and my car is a POS 1995 Honda with 208,000 miles on it. Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? If I were to compare myself to a TV character it would be Felix Unger not the Fonz.

Red you do the very thing that you are accusing broner of. You left nasty comments on my blogs (and a few others), all because you didn't happen to agree with something I said way back when. You are always on here spewing negative energy.
