The French Ambassador to the United States, Jean-David Levitte, was in Milwaukee today to watch the France/Portugal game at the Alliance Francaise, 1800 E. Capitol Dr. in Shorewood. France ("Les Bleus") won the match, 1-0, in Munich, Germany on a penalty kick by Zinedine Zidane to advance to the final on Sunday.

In the photo above, Levitte (left), celebrates his country's World Cup semifinal victory with Azouz Begag, Minister for Equal Opportunities in the French government, and Richard Barbeyron, French Consul General (Chicago) at the Alliance Francaise Wednesday.

The Cup final against Italy (also called "The Blues" or "Gli Azzurri" in Italian) will be Zidane's last game before retiring.

If you're looking for a place to watch the final, you can get all partisan by watching at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago St., in the Third Ward or at the Alliance Francaise. The ICC will open at noon and dish up a pizza buffet for the game, which starts at 12:55 p.m. and will be shown on a huge projection screen.

Germany, which lost to Italy, 2-0, Tuesday, faces Portugal in the third place game on Saturday.
