Leff's opening day tailgate bash will be a day late
Leff's Lucky Town will hold its annual opening day tailgate a day late.

Another New Year's resolution is history.

Unlike many others, a lack of willpower was not the primary culprit this time.

Frustrated in their attempt to procure tickets for the popular Brewers opening day tailgate party sponsored by Leff's Lucky Town and The Hog (102.9 FM), many fans vowed to pay close attention and get tickets to the baseball bash this year.

Unfortunately, it's already too late.

According to an e-mail from Leff's, the 2009 version of the opening day tailgate will not take place before the Brewers' home opener against the Cubs April 10 at Miller Park.

"This year there will not be a 2009 Opening Day Tailgate with Leff's and The Hog," the e-mail states. "The Milwaukee Brewers have decided not to sell any group ticket packages this year. Although we at Leff's are disappointed, we understand and respect the Brewers' decision regarding group sales for Opening Day.

"We also extend our congratulations to the entire Brewers organization for a fantastic season, making the playoffs for the first time in 26 years and for drawing 3 million fans."

Much like last season, when heavy demand for the opener prompted an "encore," Leff's is offering an alternative.

"The Brewers' staff has graciously given Leff's and The Hog an opportunity to host an event to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on the second game of this year's season," the e-mail said.

The tailgate will be held prior to the 6 p.m. game on Saturday, April 11. The second-day event will feature live music by the LoveMonkeys, beer, soda, tailgate food, bathrooms. Admission to the party will range between $65 and $75, which includes a game ticket.

"By taking advantage of this offer from the Brewers we can once again have a terrific tailgate party for a great cause," the Leff's e-mail said.

Leff's is asking fans to make ticket requests here by Jan. 14, so that they'll know how many tickets to request. The second-day party last year, which was prompted by the heavy demand for the opening day party, drew a crowd of close to 300 people.

The cancellation of the opening day tailgate, coupled with the fact that the game is against the Cubs, should create a substantially larger turnout this year.

Is this an attempt by the Brewers organization to allow more Cubs fans a chance to acquire tickets?

20 gamer & the one shoters are those who only go to this 1 game all year to drink & party. Don't get me wrong, their money is good and they more than welcome but to question why you would cater to them over those who make a bigger commitment is silly. Not as silly as the schedule maker who had the bright idea to schedule the opener against the Cubs though. That's just all kinds of stupid.

"...live music by the LoveMonkeys, beer, soda, tailgate food, bathrooms." Well, if there's bathrooms involved, how can I pass this up?
