Milwaukee athlete Dan McAuliffe, a member of the Milwaukee Hurling Club, has been invited to participate in the Aug. 2 "Poc Fada," competition. He is the first American-born player to ever compete in the event, which is a cross-country, individual version of the Irish sport of hurling, usually a team sport played on a defined field.
"As far as being the first American to compete, I'm thrilled and honored to represent Milwaukee," McAuliffe said. "I believe being invited reflects that Milwaukee has made a name for itself in the hurling world, not only for its introduction of the sport to a broad American audience but also its level of skill."
The Milwaukee Hurling Club was founded in 1996 by lovers of the sport. The Milwaukee Hurling Club Web site has club schedules and more information on the sport.

I have a coworker who play on the MHC and he said that this is a very high honor. Only 12 individuals are chosen and it is a grueling process and competition. I wish him the very best of luck.
