Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio was at Miller Park Tuesday afternoon to meet with his baseball staff for a number of reasons, one of which included the announcement that general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ron Roenicke's contracts have been extended.

It was also announced that Melvin was promoted to president of baseball operations. who previously had been the club's executive vice president and general manager.

Melvin's extension carries through the 2015 season, while Roenicke's contract will go through 2014 with a team option for 2015.

"It's nice because my focus needs to be on what we're doing here and what we're trying to accomplish and get through this time when we're not playing well," Roenicke said before Tuesday's game.

The Brewers manager said he didn't feel questions surrounding his status after this season affected his day-to-day game planning.

"I don't think it's a distraction," Roenicke said. "I'm very happy that they have the confidence in me to let me come back next year and the year after and we'll see what happens after that."

Reigning National League Most Valuable Player Ryan Braun said the extensions were well deserved.

"I'm excited to see that everybody else has recognized that because they've obviously been instrumental in the success we've had to this point, being a smaller, mid-market team going to the playoffs two of the last four years and finding a way to get three million people to watch us come play every year," Braun said.

"Those guys deserve as much credit as anybody that's playing on the field."

Braun went on to say the moves are important for the players as well, both in the clubhouse and any that might come to Milwaukee.

"For all of us, we look for consistency, we look for continuity and the challenge is longevity," Braun said.

"Knowing that those two pieces are going to be in place for hopefully at least the next few years, for all of us as players, it's comforting and encouraging. And I think it helps in the offseason when you're going out and recruiting potential free agents or looking to make trades, to be able to form a relationship with somebody and say 'I'm going to be here for the next four, five years, I'm the one who you'll answer to, whatever I tell you is going to stand."

It was also announced Tuesday that Roenicke will speak at Concordia University Wisconsin’s Spring Leadership Series beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Siebert Dining Hall on May 21.

The bi-annual event on Concordia’s Mequon campus is a breakfast networking event for local business leaders. The topic of Roenicke’s presentation will be, "Lessons Learned Along the Way: Leadership, Commitment and Team."
