I'm entirely the wrong person to tell you about this, but tonight, author John Eisenberg visits Boswell Book Co. on Downer Avenue to talk about his book, "That First Season: How Vince Lombardi Took the Worst Team in the NFL and Set It on the Path to Glory."
The problem is, I'm not a Packers fan. But don't get upset yet. I don't have anything against the green and gold, I just don't enjoy football. I know, that's sacrilege to many of you, but I can't pretend just for you.
My only connection to Lombardi -- and it's no real connection at all -- is that he was born and raised around the corner and up a block or two from where I was born and raised. Yawn, right?
What's more exciting is Eisenberg's concise look at how one Italian boy from Brooklyn landed in Green Bay in 1959 and whipped into shape the NFL's whipping boys and transformed them into heroes.
The team hadn't had a winning record in more than a decade and there was talk of the team packing up for another town. The year before Lombardi arrived, the Packers -- which boasted seven future Hall of Famers -- finished 1-10-1.
Eisenberg, an award-winning Baltimore Sun sports columnist puts you in a great seat at Lambeau so you can see the Packers' amazing transformation.
Hear him talk about it and ask him questions -- and have him sign your book -- tonight at Boswell Book Co., 2559 N. Downer Ave., at 7 p.m. It's free -- the event, not the book. The book will cost you $25, but remember that Christmas is coming up and a signed copy could make a great gift.
