The fine folks in San Diego might not be too happy about the Padres losing their final two games to the Brewers this weekend and having to play a one-game, wild-card playoff tonight at Coors Field.

For the rest of us, though, it is a fitting end to the regular season and a rockin' way to kick off what could be a magical October.

The last week of the regular season was nothing short of spectacular, with the Phillies' surge, the Mets' gag and the Rockies' incredible run. Sprinkle in the Red Sox-Yankees subplot and surprising young teams like Cleveland and Arizona and you've got the makings for must-see TV.

It starts tonight, with Cy Young favorite Jake Peavy starting for the Padres against Josh Fogg and a Colorado team that won 13 of its past 14 games to get to this point. It's the first "play-in" game since 1999, when the Mets beat the Reds to advance to the NLDS.

The Rockies won a coin flip for the right to host the game, which can be seen live on TBS or online at mlb.com.

For the first time in weeks, there will be no "scoreboard watching" in this game. It's win, or go home. The playoffs, in essence, are starting with Game 7. Considering the way the season ended, we wouldn't have it any other way.
