Following another dreadful start, the Brewers Saturday optioned left-hander Manny Parra to Class AAA Nashville.

Parra's demotion was announced just hours after his worst outing of the season. He allowed six runs on six hits in just 1.2 innings of work in a 7-1 loss to the White Sox. It was just the latest in a poor stretch for Parra, who's allowed 32 earned runs on 40 hits with 15 walks in 21.1 innings over his last five outings.

For the year, Parra is 3-8 with a 7.52 ERA in 13 starts. In 64.2 innings of work, he's allowed 83 hits and a team-leading 41 walks with 55 strikeouts.

"It's disappointing," Parra said. "I know the kind of pitcher I am and I just haven't been pitching well lately."

Manager Ken Macha said that general manager Doug Melvin decided to make a move shortly after Parra was removed from the game.

"He came down in the middle of the game and he'd already spoken to Manny," Macha said. "(He could be back) but there's no promises made; he's going to have to go down there and pitch, and pitch well.

To replace Parra, the Brewers summoned left-hander Chris Narveson from Nashville. To make room for Narveson on the 40-man roster, the team moved second baseman Rickie Weeks to the 60-day disabled list.

Narveson will provide some relief in the bullpen. Macha doesn't plan to make any adjustments to the rotation for the time being, as a number of off-days in the upcoming schedule will allow him to work with the four remaining starters.

"We won't need a fifth starter for quite awhile," Macha said. "Right now, we don't have a plan (to replace Parra in the rotation)."

In 40 innings with the Sounds, Narveson gave up 28 hits and 11 walks while striking out 43. He had a 3-3 record and 3.38 ERA.

Narveson hasn't been in the big leagues since a five-game stint with the Cardinals in 2006. He saw action in five games (with one start) and went 0-0 with a 4.82 ERA.
