Greetings from Miller Park, where CC Sabathia makes his Brewers debut tonight against the Colorado Rockies.
OnMilwaukee.com will be here blogging the game, for those of you that were unable to get tickets to this rare Tuesday night sellout.
It's an Opening Day-like atmosphere at the stadium. The parking lots filled fast and people are genuinely stoked for Sabathia's first Milwaukee start. Up in the Bob Betts Press Box, it's practically SRO as well; much like the home opener, various scribes and camera / microphone-jockeys are here from all corners of the state -- and the country.
We'll be back shortly when action gets underway. In the meantime, here's tonight's starting lineup:
2b Rickie Weeks
SS J.J. (note the initials) Hardy
LF Ryan Braun
1B Prince Fielder
RF Corey Hart
3B Bill Hall
CF Mike Cameron
C Jason Kendall
P CC Sabathia
7:07 p.m.: Sabathia's first pitch as a Brewer is a strike to centerfielder Willy Tavares. The crowd has already given the left-hander a pair of standing ovations and the chant "Let's go CC" is echoing through the park.
7:09: Tavares takes Ball Four on a full count. Surprisingly enough, Brewers fans opted not to boo.
7:13: With two outs and a runner on third, Sabathia issues a four-pitch walk to Matt Holliday. The ballpark is pretty quiet at the moment.
7:16: Ryan Spillborghs chases strike three and Sabathia has his first strikeout as a Brewer. He allows no runs and walks two.
The internet connection here at the ballpark is slugglish, so we'll update every half-inning -- unless, of course Sabathia sends one deep.
Brewers' first: Welcome to Milwaukee, CC. Weeks and Hardy lead off with a pair of singles. Braun puts the Brewers on the board with a 435-ft., no-doubt-about-it bomb to left field. Fielder makes the first out on a grounder to second. Hart flies out to right and Bill Hall grounded out to third to end the inning. Brewers 3, Rockies 0.
Rockies' second: Sabathia retires Yorvit Torrealba and Jayson Nix for his second and third strikeouts of the night. The "Let's Go, CC" chant is back ... it's nice to see fans doing something other than booing or the "wave." Omar Quintanilla falls behind, 0-2 and looks at ball one before grounding out to Weeks. Brewers 3, Rockies 0.
Brewers' second: Both Cameron and Kendall ground out to short, bringing up Sabathia for his first-ever at bat. He hacks at Mark Redman's first pitch and grounds out weakly to first. Three up, three down. Brewers 3, Rockies 0.
Rockies' third: With one out, Sabathia allows his first hit as a Brewer -- a double by Taveras. Barmes flies out to right, but not deep enough to advance the runner. Holliday worked the count full before grounding out to third. Sabathia has thrown 44 pitches through the first three innings, 26 for strikes. Brewers 3, Rockies 0.
Brewers' third: Weeks thought he looked at ball four ... he didn't and ended up fouling off four straight pitches before ripping a double down the left-field line. Weeks moves to third on Hardy's grounder to second. Redman intentionally walks Braun, brining up Fielder with runners at the corners and one out. He hits a weak grounder to short that should have been a double-play, but Colorado shortstop Quintanilla botched the throw, allowing Weeks to score and bringing up Corey Hart with two on and one out. He hits a fairly deep fly to center that allows Braun to advance to third. Hall grounds into a fielders' choice to end the inning. Brewers 4, Rockies 0.
Rockies' fourth: Things get interesting when Sabathia gives up singles to Garret Atkins and Spilborghs to open the inning. Hardy is charged with an error, loading the bases for Nix. The second base man grounds into a 6-4-3 double play, but a run scores and Quintanilla ends the inning with a groundout to Fielder. Brewers 4, Rockies 1.
Brewers' fourth: Cameron leads off with a double to the wall in right-center. Kendall flies out to center and Sabathia, in his second at-bat of the day, advances Cameron to third with a groundout to shortstop. He's left stranded, though, as Weeks ends the inning with a fly out to left. Brewers 4, Rockies 1.

Some random observations between innings: This game is sure to be the Brewers' 16th sellout of the season. Unlike most games, though, this crowd was pretty much settled in by first pitch. ... There was a noticable buzz after the fourth inning, when All-Star starter Ryan Braun appeared on the video board encouraging fans to vote Corey Hart onto the All-Star team. ... There is a group of five fans sitting in front of the press box sporting Indians jerseys with Sabathia's name and number on them. ... The Brewers' "junior PA announcer" -- a regular promotion at Miller Park -- didn't hide his excitement when he introduced Sabathia's third-inning at-bat. Can't say it enough; this place is geeked up.

Rockies' fifth: Quick work for Sabathia; Redman grounds out to third, Taveras grounds to short and Barmes flies out to left. Three up, three down. Brewers 4, Rockies 1.
Brewers' fifth: Redman made quick work of the Brewers in his half of the inning. Hardy and Braun both fly to center and Fielder grounds out to first. Brewers 4, Rockies 1.
Rockies' sixth: A diving Hall can't get his glove on Holliday's shot down the line and he singles to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Atkins fouls one back -- right into the press box -- that beat writer Tom Haudricourt catches on the fly. He is applauded by the fans below and ribbed by his fellow scribes. Atkins walks, bringing Kendall out to the mound for a brief chat. Sabathia has thrown 77 pitches, and the Milwaukee bullpen is quiet. Pitching coach Mike Maddux makes his first trip to the mound after Sabathia loads the bases with a six-pitch walk to Spilborghs. Torrealba rips the first offering down the right-field line for a two-run double, making it a one-run game. That's gets the bullpen going; right-hander David Riske is warming up. Spilborghs, by the way, left the game after coming up lame running into third. He's been replaced by former Brewer Scott Podsednik. Sabathia gets himself out of further trouble by getting Nix to line into a double play that catches Podsednik at third. Not so fast, Sabathia walks Quintanilla. The 3-2 to pinch-hitter Brad Hawpe has the crowd on its feet, and Sabathia notches his fifth strikeout of the night to end the inning. He's thrown 97 through six; don't expect him to come back out for the seventh. Brewers 4, Rockies 3.

Sausage race update: It's Italian, going wire to wire in 19.07 seconds. Just in case you wanted to know...
Sabathia gear going fast: Down in the Fan Zone store behind home plate, sales of Sabathia apparel are brisk. Staffers say the $35 jersey T-shirts are flying off the shelves.
"It's crazy," one employee said. "Pretty much every other customer is buying one."
Authentic jerseys are going for $210.

Brewers' sixth: Corey Hart reaches on an error by Nix to lead off, but that's where he sits. Hall, Cameron, Kendall all go down on fly balls.
Brewers 4, Rockies 3.
* * *
Final line: Sabathia is done for the day, giving way to Riske. His final line: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K. He threw 97 pitches, 57 for strikes. If the score holds, he'll get the win. Not an earth-shattering debut, but it might just be enough.
* * *
Rockies' seventh: With Riske on to pitch, Taveras flies out to center, Barmes is caught looking at strike three and Holliday grounds out to third. One of Riske's better performances. Brewers 4, Rockies 3.
* * *
Capacity crowd: Brewers PR man John Steinmiller just announced the attendance: 42,533 -- the 16th sellout of the season. Not bad for a Tuesday night in Milwaukee.
* * *
Brewers' seventh: Joe Dillon bats for Riske and singles to center. Weeks follows with a single to left; he's 3 for 4 today with a pair of runs scored. Hardy shows buntat Matt Herges' first offering and works the count full before striking out and Herges follows by getting Braun swinging. Dillon and Weeks advance on a wild pitch and Herges intentionally walks Fielder, loading the bases for Hart, who just narrowly avoids getting drilled by a 1-1 offering. He checked his swing on Herges' sixth pitch and walked, scoring Weeks. That'll be all for Herges, as Colorado manager Clint Hurdle hands the ball to right-hander Jason Grilli in a double-switch that sends Atkins to third and brings Joe Koshansky on to play first. Once everybody is settled in, Hall singles to left scoring Weeks and Fielder. The inning ends when Hart is caught in a rundown between second and third. Don't go anywhere, folks ... Eric Gagne is coming on to pitch the eighth. Brewers 7, Rockies 3.
Rockies' eighth: How can you tell Brewers fans are in a good mood? They didn't even boo Gagne ... at least, not right away. Atkins leads off with a line-drive single to center, but is out on Koshansky's double-play. Gagne goes up, 2-0 on Torrealba, (even though the scoreboard guy messed up ... ) before inducing a ground out to second for his third straight scoreless inning since returning from the disabled list. Brewers 7, Rockies 3.
Brewers' eighth: Cameron draws a leadoff walk and moves to second on a pinch-hitter Gabe Kapler's one-out grounder to the pitcher. Weeks strikes out to end the inning. Brian Shouse is coming on to pitch the ninth. Brewers 7, Rockies 3.
Rockies' ninth: Shouse makes quick work of Colorado in the ninth, getting Nix, Quintanilla and Hawpe all to hit into ground outs and end the game. Sabathia gets his first-ever National League victory and another ovation from the fans. The most impressive stat of the night -- at least for members of the assembled media -- is the tide 2:54 game time. Final score -- Brewers 7, Rockies 3.
