In the wake of the shooting at Virginia Tech on Monday, a moment of silence was observed prior to the Bucks-Hawks game at the Bradley Center. A gunman at the school killed 32 people and himself in the attack, the deadliest in US history.
Public address announcer Eric Jensen read the following announcement before the basketball game:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, today's tragic events that took place at Virginia Tech University have saddened the entire nation. Our heartfelt prayers and sympathies go out to all the students, faculty and families involved in this horrific incident. We ask that you please rise for a moment of silence."
At The Pabst Theater, The Decemberists' lead singer and guitarist Colin Meloy urged the sold-out crowd to keep the families of the victims in mind and to work to create a violence-free society.
