Another sports weekend is upon us. While the Bucks, Admirals, Wave, Golden Eagles and Badgers all try to find ways to win their games, a certain iconic quarterback sits on a tractor somewhere in Mississippi and contemplates whether he wants to play any more games at all.
If you find yourself worried / obsessed about when and what No. 4 will decide, you may find a distraction in the following action:
FRIDAY
STRIKE UP THE BAND
The Admirals will have some extra noisemakers on hand when they play host to Rockford at 7 p.m. at the Bradley Center. The University of Wisconsin band will provide the musical backdrop and former Badgers star Ryan Suter, who began his pro career with Milwaukee, will be honored with a bobblehead giveaway.
If the players from Rockford experience rough treatment (if they don't like the band or if the bobbleheads run out), they can get revenge when the teams meet Sunday afternoon in Rockford.
REMATCH
The Bucks' victory over Detroit on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center was simultaneously satisfying and harrowing. The Pistons will try to exact revenge when the teams meet in suburban Detroit. Let's hope that Rasheed Wallace doesn't pick up where he left off - draining three-point shots at every turn.
GOPHER HUNTING
The Badgers were shut out in the opening game of a home series with Minnesota State last weekend at the Kohl Center, and then went on to score the first four goals en route to a victory in the second game. Now tied for fourth in the WCHA, the Badgers roll into Minnesota for a pair of big games.
SATURDAY
HITTING ON ALL CYLINDERS
Coach Tom Crean's Marquette Golden Eagles are getting hot at just the right time of the year. After pounding Seton Hall, Pittsburgh and St. John's, Marquette plays a home game against lowly Rutgers. Tip-off at the Bradley Center is 1 p.m.
BY GEORGE!
It has been a long time since George Karl coached the Bucks to the NBA Eastern Conference finals. Karl leads the Denver Nuggets into Milwaukee for a game Denver at Bucks. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
BRACKET BUSTER
After a disappointing outing at Cleveland State, the Milwaukee Panthers travel to Peoria in a made-for-TV mid-major showcase. The Panthers, who rank last in the Horizon League in shooting percentage, need some help from the perimeter to beat the Braves. Marcus Skinner can't do it on effort alone.
SUNDAY
MEMORY LANE
A year ago, Wisconsin and Ohio State were battling for first place in the Big Ten - if not the nation. Without Greg Oden and Mike Conley, the Buckeyes are struggling this season. The Badgers, meanwhile, are tied with scrappy Purdue for the Big Ten lead.
GET YOUR KICKS
The Wave moved into first place in the MISL and defense was a big reason. Marcelo Fontana, the league's defensive player of the week, blocked five shots and scored a pair of goals to spark a 16-12 victory over Baltimore last week. The Wave plays host to California in a 2 p.m. game at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Get the best available seat for $12 by calling (414) 224-9283.
