The story leaked out last week, but the Brewers officially announced today that they have re-signed closer Trevor Hoffman to a one-year contact with a mutual option for 2001.

That means another year of "Hells Bells" during "Trevor Time" at Miller Park, the excitement of which is captured in our video of the day.

Hoffman, who turns 42 Tuesday, was 3-2 with a 1.83 earned run average and 37 saves in 55 relief appearances during his first season with the Brewers. He also made the all-star team or the seventh time.

"Trevor is a true professional whose preparation and work ethic is unmatched," general manager Doug Melvin said in announcing the signing.

"Every athlete should take note. He is all about winning and not about individual numbers. He has proven to everyone that he wants the ball in pressure situations and will take responsibility at the end of a game, win or lose. We are thrilled to have him back."

Hoffman is the all-time saves leader in the major leagues with 591. His career save percentage of 89.3 (591-for-662) ranks second in Major League history among pitchers who have had at least 300 opportunities. He trails only Mariano Rivera (526-for-588, 89.5).
