It's a close game Tuesday night at Wrigley, with the Brewers leading the Cubs 3-1, heading into the bottom of the seventh.
So when Bob Uecker sings "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," during the seventh inning stretch, is anyone surprised that Mr. Baseball "roots, roots, roots" for the Brewers? Don't be.
In the many times Uecker has performed the song at the so-called "friendly confines," each time, he's rooted for the Brewers.
This time, he added politely (but unnecessarily), "You do the same for the Cubs!"
That was a nice touch as Cubs fans booed Bob (or as the TV announcers said, "They were yelling 'Uecke, Uecke, Uecke.'"
Sure, whatever.
In this most heated rivalry in this extremely important game, it's great that Uecker, the ultimate Brewers fan, didn't do the PC thing. He re-affirmed his allegiance to Milwaukee. And that's just great. If you've ever met Bob in person, it's not surprising.
Too bad Scott Linebrink couldn't hold the lead, coughing up two runs to let the Cubs tie the game.
Stay tuned, fans, this one is far from over.

As dull as Uecker sometimes is on the air (i.e., long moments of silence between comments), he is much better than media whores like Pat Hughes and Len Kasper--now Cubs apologists after being Selig apologists for a long time....
