Rugby explodes on the Lakeshore: Sevens Tournament June 29 The 31st Annual Lakefront Sevens Rugby Tournament has 100 teams and 1500 players, men, women and teens, converge to compete on six fields in this increasingly popular game and new, highly anticipated Olympic sport. “Sevens” rugby football is fast-paced, explosive and high scoring -- different from the traditional 15-player game. Simply, it can be described as: 7 players, 7 minute halves, 7 points per score. Set on a field similar to American football with H-shaped goalposts, style of play is a running game allowing only lateral passing, studded with scrums, rucks and body tackles. “The Sevens game is becoming very popular, very quickly,” comments Tournament Director Victor Drover. “The tournament has brackets for men, women and high school teams. This is a great opportunity to find out more about the game.” USA Rugby, the sport’s national governing body, presents an annual sevens championship. The Lakefront Sevens Tournament is one of five Midwest qualifying events. “This is class rugby,” Drover goes on, “Twelve of our 100 teams are national caliber competing for the chance to represent the Midwest at the National Championship.” Admission is free. Parking is $5. Food, beverages (including beer) and apparel will be available. Sponsors include Capital Brewery, Athletico Physical Therapy, Treeflame, Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin, Milwaukee County Parks and Curtis Ambulance.

Milwaukee Masterpiece is an event celebrating the history and beauty of automobiles with hundreds of rare and classic vehicles displayed. Saturday will feature American and European models by local and regional car clubs with the owners on hand to give the history and context.  Sunday features award-winning and restored cars.  Admission is $15 per day and $20 for a two-day pass before Aug. 22.  Day-of ticket prices are $20 for one day and $25 for a two-day pass. All proceeds from event and social will benefit the Jewish Family Services which provides meals, counseling, development and support for those in need.
