MKE makes the top five.

Nonna Bartolotta's is one reason it's fun to be stuck at MKE.

Is MKE a good "airport to get stuck in?"

Unexpected airport layovers suck. But, increasingly, airports are doing the little things to better cater to travelers. They're adding restaurant and coffee choices, better retail, massages, wifi and other amenities.

Yet, as I said, getting stuck at airports isn't fun. And with holiday travel right upon us, it's probably inevitable. But, should you want to make your next airport layover fun, it may be interesting to know that Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport is No. 4 on's new list of "Best Airports To Get Stuck In."

My guess? Beer and brats had something to do with it. MKE, though, is a very clean and friendly stop and if you had to hang there it's pretty good as medium-sized airports go.

The rest of the list based on the poll of 5,000 U.S. travelers?

  1. Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport
  2. Pittsburgh International Airport
  3. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
  4. General Mitchell International Airport
  5. Chicago O'Hare International
  6. Orlando International Airport
  7. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport/Wold-Chamberlain Airport
  8. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport
  9. Miami International Airport
  10. Nashville International Airport

Did you see what this "" is? A dating site (for men seeking women only it seems) to hook up lonely business travellers with women seeking free airfare and hotels. Should we assume that MKE a good airport to get stuck in via that website's clientele? Are there lonely people roaming Concourse D looking for a little lovin? Things to think about the next time you're "recombobulating" barefoot at the airport.

I would HATE to get stuck in Milwaukee. Options for food are fairly limited - even if you have to leave the secure area. I was stuck in Dallas last week. In the terminal in which I was waiting, there were about 20 different places to eat and lots of shops. It still sucked.
