Despite the fact that school is about to start for most kids in Milwaukee, you don’t have to say goodbye to summer quite yet.

After all, as OnMilwaukee.com's Molly Snyder likes to say,  September is the new summer in Milwaukee.

Here are a few ways you can hang on to the sunshine just a little while longer in Brew City.

Catch an old time baseball game

Nothing like a little 1860s-style baseball to keep the season alive. The Milwaukee Cream Citys Vintage Base Ball Club takes on the host Ronald Reagan Renegades at Reagan Elementary School in New Berlin at noon on Sept. 12.

Bay Beach

This classic Wisconsin amusement park is open weekends (and Labor Day) from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. through Sept. 27. Quality, old-time fun for the whole family.

The pool wraps up its season on Labor Day, Sept. 7. Open swim is $7.50 and a complete schedule is here. Hang around after for a ginormous pretzel and brewski at The Landing beer garden, which keeps regular hours (weather permitting) until Nov. 1.

Late season festivals

Sure, Summerfest feels like a distant memory by now, but it’s not too late for the Milwaukee Rally (Sept. 3-7), the Highland Games & Celtic Fling (Sept. 4-6), Third Ward Art Festival (Sept, 5-6), Tosa Fest (Sept. 11-12), the Tomato Romp! (Sept. 12), Bay View Bash (Sept. 19) and the Cedarburg Wine and Harvest Festival (Sept. 19-20).

S/V Denis Sullivan

One of the coolest ways to experience Lake Michigan is on board the schooner Denis Sullivan, which calls Discovery World home. The last day to sail for the season is Oct. 11, so check out the details here.

Boerner Botanical Gardens

Though a lot of blooms have come and gone, the gardens are still beautiful as summer transitions to early fall. So, head on over and take a peaceful stroll.
