Member Swap Day offers four times the fun

The Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Public Museum, Discovery World and Betty Brinn Children's Museum have teamed up yet again to offer their members free general admission to all four museums during Member Swap Day, Sunday, Dec. 4.

Members of any of the four museums can visit any or all of them from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. simply by showing their museum membership card and a photo ID at admissions.

No registration is required. Number admitted depends on individual level of membership. Admission includes access to all special exhibits except the Milwaukee Public Museum's "Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt."

SHARP's bee-utiful quilts

The latest SHARP Literacy We Love to Learn book, entitled, "A Busy Bee: The Story of Bella the Honey Bee," landed the students` artwork in the Milwaukee Art Museum. Students from 13 schools joined forces to create 500 images depicting scenes from the book, which were then appliqued to four quilts now on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Lakefront Festival of Art

The exhibit is designed for children ages 3-12, and they will love seeing their favorite characters from animated movies and participating in the hands-on activities. But older visitors will appreciate learning about the intense research that goes into constructing animated worlds and the art and history that inspires the creative process. The exhibit runs through Aug. 31 and is definitely not to be missed.

It may seem counter-intuitive to bring a two-year-old to the Art Museum, but that`s exactly what I did last Saturday. I feared we may be shushed out of the place or accidentally break something important. But surprisingly, it turned out to be a mostly stress-free morning full of discovery and hands-on fun. There was so much to do for children that we could hardly fit it all in before naptime.
