@FitzgeraldKC Very similar to a convo about biking or being focused on a weight-training program. It's all good. I wouldn't be bored. :)

It's come to my attention, after nearly a week on the road, that I have a pair of biking shorts that are see-through.

They're regular black Pearl Izumi bicycling shorts. Sure, I've probably had them for a while but that's part of my normal "never throw anything away" personality.

I noticed some pilling in the material, especially on the back panels, but I didn't think much about it. The crotch pad is still good and there's still a considerable amount of snap to the spandex.

I guess I should have made better note of people's wide-eyed glances and slack jawed stares.

The first double take happened when I was talking to Father Jose in Westborough, Mass. I saw him glance down behind me. I looked too, but I thought he was looking at the black chain grease mark on my leg.

That evening the Father said he 'felt ill' letting me sleep on the floor in the church hall and instead he put me up in a nifty bed and breakfast down the block.

I just thought he was being "Westborough nice."

Another stop and stare happened in Albany, N.Y. When I asked a lady for directions. She told me where to find a grocery and a church, however she warned me I had a considerable hill to climb to get there. Then, she looked down at my legs and said, "Well I do see you're strong enough to handle it..." but then she looked up with bulging eyes and hastily left. I thought she was just "being a New Yorker" ... but come to think of it, her haste could have been horror.

I never put two and two together until now. I was wearing the shorts that day, too.

It's about 6:05 p.m. Thursday. I can tell, because I can read the clock on the wall across the room looking through my shorts. They're actually past sheer. Black Haines no nonsense pantyhose have more material.

I almost feel embarrassed. What would my mother think? But it also feels a little naughty. I wonder what the Father thought?

I hate to waste a good pair of shorts. I guess I'll just pack them away, in case of emergency.

Judy, Your articles have been great. They are filled with the details and humor that never escape your notice. Your gift is in relating to others with warmth and curiosity. About the worn bike shorts--you can autograph them and donate them to a charity auction back home. Just picture them in a frame..... no longer framing your backside :-) Your Friend, Amy Leitheiser
