Escape to Wisconsin ... or Escape Wisconsin? |

For almost a year, the term "staycation" has popped up everywhere. The word refers to the decision to take time off from work, but to stay in your home city -- or home state -- and enjoy the local offerings. The concept became popular because of the sluggish economy that affected many individuals and families and made expensive trips out of the question.
So, it's already mid-summer, and OnMilwaukee.com is wondering about your summer vacation destination. Did you choose the staycation or throw caution to the wind and plan a distant get-away? Sound-off, Milwaukee!
Staycation. I decided to stay in Wisconsin for my vacation and check out areas I had always wanted to see but never made the time to do so. Wisconsin has so many amazing attractions and beautiful, natural areas that it was a really great experience to discover The Badger State.
Real vacation. There are so many good deals on airfares and hotels right now because people aren't traveling as much that, actually, it's arguably cheaper to travel somewhere else right now. It's important to really slip away into other places and cultures to experience more than just the Wisconsin way. I highly recommend getting away for a while.

I do both! I enjoy what WI has to offer in the summers but usually take one int'l vacation and several domestic trips throughout the year.

Stay home. Woods and rivers are wonderful in summer, and there's more than enough festivals going in Milwaukee to last the whole summer. Besides, there's no need to spend a dime on planes while they are still terrible in searching and harassing people, yet (as multiple reports show) unable to stop any real, dedicated and watchful terrorist from boarding a plane.
