The New York Times revealed Sunday that the Trump administration plans to legally redefine sex and gender. This plan would effectively exclude transgender and non-binary students from legal protections under Title IX, paving the way for the further erosion of basic civil rights for transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming people to strict, obsolete gender roles.

Milwaukee Pride firmly believes that an attack on any of us is an attack on all of us. For over 30 years, we have fought for a world where all people can live proud. We will not accept or allow any attacks on our friends and family.

This is a time for ACTION. We won't be erased. And we will be heard!

We are partnering with leading LGBTQ organizations to demonstrate our resistance to ANY attempted erasure of transgender lives or legal status in America.

Meet us at the City Hall archway (Water at Wells Streets) at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Rally for Resistance, featuring local LGBTQ leaders, followed by early voting (for Milwaukee residents) until 7 p.m.

"Two years ago on election night, I feared the change in our country's administration would challenge the progress so many people fought for," said Wes Shaver, president of Milwaukee Pride, Inc. "After the latest memo from our president, we have no choice but to amplify the message that we will not accept anything less than equal treatment, respect and rights for all transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming human beings.

"This marginalization and bullying has to stop. Self-destructing our nation with hate and prejudice must come to an end. It's uncivilized. It's un-American."

We thank our proud partners FORGE, Diverse & Resilient, ACLU of Wisconsin, AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, ZAO Milwaukee Church, Courage MKE, the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Milwaukee LGBT Community Center and the Milwaukee Equal Rights Commission for standing united against hate, discrimination and exclusion against any aspect of the LGBTQ community.
