The Clybourn Street Lift Bridge has been closed since July 26, 2010, but today the Milwaukee Department of Public Works announced that the rehabilitation span is complete and the bridge will reopen Wednesday, June 15.

The $4.8 million project was funded by the City of Milwaukee and completed by Zenith Tech, Inc.

The movable bridge was built in 1968 and due to harsh river environments and continued deterioration of steel decking and support components, required major rehabilitation work to maintain safe and reliable service.

The upgrade included replacement of structural steel components, decking, walkways, railings, mechanical lifting components, upgrade of operating systems, repairs of concrete piers, sandblasting and painting, and associated approach work and street paving.

The Wisconsin Avenue bridge in Downtown Milwaukee is next on the rehabilitation agenda.  It is scheduled to be closed on or after Oct. 3, and will remain closed through at least Aug. 3, 2012.
