More than 144,000 visitors toured the Milwaukee Public Museum's "Saint Peter and the Vatican: The Legacy of the Popes" exhibition, exceeding the museum's attendance goal by 19 percent.

The show opened Feb. 4 and originally was scheduled to close May 7, but due to popular demand, the museum extended it to May 29. Approximate net income to the museum is expected to be between $350,000-$400,000, however final accounting figures will not be available for several weeks.

The museum had several sold-out weekends for the exhibition, with some weekdays nearing sold-out capacity. Milwaukee was the final North American stop and only Midwest venue.
