Clap your erasers together; Room 434 is here!

Inspired by high school classrooms, Room 434 opens tomorrow -- Wednesday, Dec. 7. -- in the old Social, 434 S. 2nd St. The first day of business will also serve as the Grand Opening, with a party at 7 p.m.

Owners Kevin Sloan and Carrie Torres, who moved The Social earlier this year to another location in the Fifth Ward/Walker's Point, wanted to offer a neighborhood gathering spot with an academic twist. Their new lounge features a full bar and an appetizer and entree menu featuring "upscale cafeteria" food.

"They really want to keep the menu reasonable," says Maria Cieslik of Cieslik Celek Interior Design who worked on the space. "They don't plan to have anything on the menu for more than $11 or $12."

The school-ish decor includes maps, globes, chalkboards, a trophy wall and bathroom "wallpaper" made from old high school yearbooks.

"Basically, it's a great lounge with classroom accents," says Cieslik. "Come to the opening party and sign the yearbook."

Stay tuned to OMC for more information and a review of Room 434.
