Milwaukee's Best Thai restaurant, 2011: The King & I
For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."
Sometimes, there's just no contest.
The King & I has been a staple on Milwaukee's dining scene for more than 20 years and once again, OnMilwaukee.com readers picked the Downtown establishment – in its second location – as their favorite Thai spot in town.
What makes it so special? Start with the owners, Bob and Marie Phoungphol, immigrated to the United States from Thailand in the '70s, and worked their way around several restaurants before starting out on their own.
Many of the items on the menu are recipes handed down from the owner's mothers, adding a special, personal touch to the dining experience.
