Doyle's Milwaukee Inn, a West Allis restaurant known for its large portions, savory homemade soups and an extensive beer stein collection, has closed.

Calls to the restaurant, located at 7335 W. Greenfield Ave., are greeted with an answering machine message touting a new endeavor -- Tomasino Italia - that will feature a complete menu of authentic homemade pastas, pizzas and Italian specialties.

Thomas and Carol Doyle opened their original restaurant, located at 1101 S. 60th St., in 1992. In 2004, the couple moved to the Greenfield Avenue location, where they took over a space that had been occupied by a Big Boy restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a Thai restaurant.

The answering machine message said the new restaurant will open in early November.
