Earlier today, we paid a visit to Walt's Sandwich Place, 10600 W. Bluemound Rd.

Formerly home of the Picnic Basket, this quaint counter service restaurant not only has a new owner and a new name, but also a larger menu that includes a variety of breakfast sandwiches, 1/2-pound burgers and a variety of both hot and cold sandwiches.

Walt's is also home to the aPorkalypse sub, a virtual pork-a-palooza featuring slow-roasted BBQ pork, bacon, ham, cheddar, jalapeño cilantro coleslaw and pickles on a buttered and grilled sub bun.

You can get a glimpse at the making of the aPorkalypse in our Facebook Live during which we talked with owner Walter Wieberg about his plans for the restaurant.

Walt's place opened May 15, and will host a grand opening on Monday, June 26. During the celebration, Walt's will offer $1 cold subs all day long.

Walt's Sandwich Place is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with breakfast served until 10:30 a.m.

You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
