North Avenue in East Tosa has been exploding with new places to eat, drink and be merry, but few received the kind of neighborhood buzz as the western outpost of Bay View’s acclaimed Vietnamese-inspired Hue.

Though there are some other Asian food options nearby, the crisp, fresh flavors of the noodle bowls, stir frys and pho noodle soups at Hue have quickly made it a North Avenue destination.

Type of food: Vietnamese-inspired.
Prices: Appetizers from $6.50 to $14, pho from $10 to $16, and entrees from $11.50 to $19.50.
Vegetarian friendly? Yes, pho, noodle and rice dishes come in veggie-only options and with tofu is available, too.
Hours: Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; Wednesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Parking: There’s plenty of street parking. Don't park in the lot west of the building, as it doesn't belong to Hue, and you may get a ticket.
Vibe/dress: The decor is sparse and no-frills tasteful and the service friendly. Come as you are.

Hits: Bún Đặc Biệt (pictured above) is a pretty great noodle bowl, with a rich variety of ingredients. A pair of grilled shrimp skewers and flavorful charbroiled lemongrass-garlic beef sit atop a bed of white vermicelli noodles and a mix of mint – adding a satisfying freshness – cucumbers, pickled carrots and daikon and shredded lettuce, topped with crushed peanuts and nước mắm sauce.

The Cơm Xào (picture above) is also delicious, served with a side of jasmine rice. With shrimp added to the stir fried vegetables, it makes for a hearty, healthful meal.

Misses: The decor could be a little more inspired.

Insider tip: Don’t miss the patio, when the weather allows.
