Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market begins Nov. 5

For the 10th straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2016."

As regular season farmers markets pack up their tents and shut down shop for the year, people searching for a taste of Wisconsin can continue to support small producers and celebrate the tastes of the season at Southeast Wisconsin's premier winter farmers market.

Local food lovers can enjoy the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market (MWFM) in the lovely (and warm!) Greenhouse Annex at the Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes) every Saturday, beginning Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"Shoppers will see their favorite long-time vendors, and we're excited that we've been able to add few new producers to season eight," says Jennifer Casey, executive director of the Fondy Food Center (FFC), the non-profit that began operating the MWFM last November and runs the Fondy Farmers Market and the Fondy Market at Schlitz Park.

Winter Saturdays at "The Domes" have become a tradition for serious local foodies as well as families who like to visit the Milwaukee landmark – all three Domes are open to the public.

The MWFM (Note: "County" was taken out of the name for brevity and to avoid confusion on who operates the market) is held Saturdays in the Greenhouse Annex at the Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes) through April 8.

"This year we are giving our vendors much needed holiday breaks – so the market will not be open on Nov. 26, Dec. 24 or Dec. 31," says Katie Hassemer, director of farmers markets for FFC. Market-goers will experience seasoned favorites and exciting new options of produce, bakery, meat, poultry, eggs, fish, dairy, cheeses, grains, ready to eat, hot foods, specialty products and preserves.

FFC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to healthy, local food access – from the Fondy Farm in Port Washington to its three unique farmers markets and a county-wide farmers market access project.

The Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market runs Saturdays, Nov. 5-April 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Greenhouse Annex at the Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes); located at 524 S. Layton Blvd.
