According to a report in BizTimes on Wednesday, Riverwest’s Art Bar, 722 E. Burleigh St., has applied for a $187,000 loan from Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to fund a restaurant in the building next door.

That building, at 732 E. Burleigh St., was long home to Vietnamese restaurant, West Bank Cafe, which closed on May 1, 2015. Art Bar’s Don Krause bought the building soon after.

According to MEDC documents, reports BizTimes Media reporter Corri Hess, Krause estimates the total cost of the restaurant project at $680,000.

There is no word on the concept or potential opening date of the new restaurant, and Krause did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He also told Hess that he would have no comment until his loan was approved by MEDC.

Speak up, Riverwesterners, what kind of restaurant do you hope Krause will open in the former West Bank Cafe space?
