Peking House, the Chinese restaurant located in the Jefferson Building at 780 Jefferson St. Downtown quietly closed earlier this week. A call to the restaurant today confirmed the news.

The Chinese restaurant owned by husband-and-wife team Jessica Liang and Wei Ping, specialized in traditional Chinese and Szechuan fare, offering lunch, dinner and carryout for nearly four years to the Downtown crowd.

Ping began his career at 15 years of age as an assistant cook for the Szechuan government in southern China. He moved on to work as a chef for Milwaukee's Yen Ching restaurant, 7630 Good Hope Rd., before  the couple opened its first Peking House restaurant in Pewaukee in 2006. The owners moved the restaurant to its Downtown Milwaukee location in spring of 2014.
