Rio West Cantina quietly opened last weekend in the space formerly housing Mondo Brothers Café, 2730 N. Humboldt Blvd.

Rio West is a Russ Davis creation, the man behind the now-defunct Mondo Brothers, as well as Lakefront Palm Gardens, Café Vecchio Mondo, Riverwalk Boat & Tours and Bella Luna Pasta, which is in the same building as the new cantina.

Rio West Cantina offers basic Tex-Mex fare -- enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc. -- at very affordable prices. Manager Jesus Romero says most entrees range between $4.95 and $7.95. Romero was previously kitchen manager at Lakefront Palm Garden.

The space includes a bar, restaurant -- which seats 65 -- and a kids’ room, featuring crayons and toys for young diners. Smoking is permitted in the bar area.

Rio West Cantina is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for a review of Rio West Cantina.
