Earlier this evening, I had a three-way phone convo with Rhett & Link – best friends, comedians, YouTube gurus and soon-to-be authors – and during our group telly chat I had no idea if Rhett or Link was doing the talking, but it didn’t matter because all of the commentary was hilarious. Undoubtedly, this is foreshadowing of tomorrow night's show at the Riverside.

The lifelong best friends and comedians have multiple YouTube channels including the most-watched daily show on the Internet, "Good Mythical Morning," with 15.5 million subscribers. They also host a narrative series "Rhett & Link’s Buddy System"  the award-winning weekly podcast "Ear Biscuits" and viral comedic songs, sketches and low-budget "local" commercials.

They are currently on the Midwest leg of their tour and will perform at Milwaukee’s Riverside Theater on Tuesday, June 25 at 8 p.m. Expect songs, jokes, audience interaction and hopefully something to do with nasty food.

OnMilwaukee: So you've been collaborating since childhood. Why do you work so well together? What's the glue?

Rhett or Link: On the first day of first grade we both got in trouble for writing nasty words on our desk, so during recess we had to color pictures of mythical beasts. He colored inside the lines and it really pissed me off.

So is that why your show is so popular – one of you colors inside the lines and one of you does not?

Rhett or Link: That and apparently people like "hanging out" with us. We tend to get very intimate. We’ll be doing the Milwaukee show in our underwear.

What an honor for the Milwaukee audience. Will you sing "The Cheese Rap" at your show on Tuesday?

Rhett or Link: No. We refuse to pander to the Wisconsin audience.

Anything new in the works for you guys?

Rhett or Link: Actually, yes, something we’re very excited about. We wrote a book together. It's a really personal story about the little quarry town we grew up in North Carolina – but also a story of all these things that never happened. It’s called "The Lost Causes of Bleak Creek," it's a mystery / sci-fi.

It’s been more than 10 years since you visited Milwaukee. Do you have any immediate thoughts or memories of Brew City?

Rhett or Link: Actually, we trace all of our success back to Wisconsin. In 2008, we went to a place called the Wisconsin Cheese Mart and then we made a cheese rap with our faces superimposed on cheese.

Rhett or Link: We eat a lot of stuff. Weird stuff. Nasty stuff.

What’s the nastiest food you’ve eaten?

Rhett or Link: Beef-bile cheese cake. It was absolutely repulsive.

By any chance would you guys be up for dueling me in a cream puff eating contest? In 2017 I ate six cream puffs in under two minutes and became the Hands-Free Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Champion of Wisconsin. 

Rhett or Link: Give us a couple of years and we’re in.

OK, here’s another weird Wisconsin food fun fact. Actually it's more of a weird beverage fact. Do you know what a chaser is?

Rhett or Link: No.

It’s a tiny glass or bottle of beer that comes standard with a Bloody Mary. If you order a Bloody anywhere else, there’s no chaser, so when Wisconsinites travel and ask for one it sounds like we just want free beer.

Rhett or Link: (Silence)

So you guys ever try frozen custard?

Rhett or Link: Yeah. I didn’t try it in Wisconsin, it was somewhere else, and I ordered it with a chaser. They had no idea what I was talking about. Turns out they only serve custard with chasers in Milwaukee.
