The Elm Grove Memorial Day parade was canceled Monday when a train hit a minivan near Village Hall.

Hundreds of parade participants were getting ready for the annual parade in nearby Village Park and hundreds more were lining the parade route in the village when the accident took place at approximately 9:40 a.m. in the 13600 block of Juneau Blvd.

Emergency vehicles, including a Flight for Life helicopter, responded to the crash scene and authorities canceled the parade, which was slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
