Summerfest is, primarily, a playground for adults. Much of the music appeals to fest-goers in their 20s, 30s, 50s and 50s and, for a lot of people, it’s all about the beer. There is also an emphasis on kids, with the Children’s Area featuring lots of play equipment and activities for little people.

But what about teens? Is there enough for them to do at the Big Gig or do they get lost in the Summerfest shuffle? Sound-off, Milwaukee, about your thoughts on teens and Summerfest.

Nope, not enough for teens. There are not enough entertainment options for teens to do at the Big Gig. Very few teen-friendly bands get booked and much of the emphasis at Summerfest is on drinking, which counteracts the message most parents and schools are trying to send. Unfortunately, because of lack of Summerfest activities, some teens get into trouble for underaged drinking or smoking on the rocks next to the lake.

There’s plenty for teens to do.
There are plenty of food and drink options for teens. Plus, stages like the U.S. Cellular / Rock 102.1 stage do a good job showcasing bands that teens care about. Also, there’s the sky glider, shopping, street entertainment like this year’s Pogo Dudes and more. I think most teens have a great time at the Big Gig.
