The "Social Circle" is a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors. Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in this column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.

Turns out, people have strong opinions about whether or not it’s OK to wear shorts. Here’s what members of the Social Circle had to say and feel free to chime in via the Talkback feature.

Regardless of your thoughts on short-wearing to work, here’s to a warm and fun summer.

Brian C. Brehmer: "Doesn’t seem professional to me."

Jerod Dee: "One step away from a bathing suit. Two steps away from nudity."

Brandy Glass-Lucchesi: "I would never wear shorts anywhere. Someone called me bird-legs when I was 14 and traumatized me for life."

Jessica Halverson Foor: "Long shorts treated like a skirt do not bother me, but when they begin creeping up your thigh they cross a line to inappropriate. I do not want to see my thighs, why would I want anyone else to?"

Kat Froehlich: "I just pictured a man in a suit coat with shorts and had a little chuckle."

Tom Held: "No. Unless you're playing for the Bucks. And even then, it seems a waste of a good pair of shorts, given the caliber of play in the BMO Harris Bradley Center."

Katharina Hren: "I could get away with wearing shorts to work, but a skirt makes me feel more professional. Plus it's easier to move in a skirt."

Catherine Koons Hubbard: "I teach at a nature center. Shorts are pretty common."

Trish Hundhausen: "All depends on where you work. It seems to be the standard among creatives during warmer months."

Julilly Kohler: "I vote against. Unless you are a camp counselor, I think it's too informal and shows too much skin for a work place. Work is different from lounging around at home. At least it should be."

Erin Shea Linnane: "Depends on the shorts- for an office, dressy shorts with nylons wouldn't phase me, it's no different then a dressy skirt. Short shorts, on the other hand ... I guess it depends on the job."

Scott Mizzen: "As long as they fit the environment you work in, why not? Not sure of the big difference between shorts and skirts."

Jodie Niles: "I like it!"

Steven Phillip Potter: "Not allowed to even think about it."

Iggy Rae: "I never wear shorts to work, and I play guitar for a living."

Renee Scherck-Meyer: "Save the shorts for picnics and festivals. Skirts and slacks in an office."

Anna Stone: "As long as the legs are hairy."

Tom Strini: "Only in 90-degrees plus and then only if you bike to work."

Laron Taylor: "Just not jorts."

Kevin Tissot: "I wish. And open toed shoes. Alas, I am a man and a manager. Belts even. Ugh."

Mitchell Wakefield: "I'd prefer to wear no pants at all to work, but often settle on shorts."

Stacey Williams-Ng: "Well, it depends. Am I a roller-skating waitress in this scenario? If so then, yes. Otherwise, absolutely not."

Adam Zelmer: "I wish they'd let me. It's a casual place but leg tattoos are probably pushing it."
