Detour Clothing, 1300 E. Brady St., is leaving its corner location on Arlington Place and Brady Street to focus on its online operations while also searching for a possible smaller physical store space.

The Brady Street location will close "within the next couple of months," according to owners Jason and Jesse Meyer and a possible move will be made in tandem with an increased focus on the clothing store's online business.

The owners told me via Twitter, "the market no longer warrants such a large space" and because of the store's large online business the owners are "in no hurry to find a (new) physical space" once they close the Brady Street location.

Detour opened in 1997 in the greater Milwaukee area and has been a fashion leader, especially with denim and emerging designers. It expanded to a second location at the Brookfield Towne Center in 2004. It has since closed that location.

Detour has been building its ecommerce business in the past several years and regularly fills orders from both coasts.  The owners plan to continue to increase business at detouronline.com and "if a golden opportunity comes up in the right area" the Meyers will "definitely look at it (a new brick and mortar store).
