Watch Tim Cuprisin's On Media on Time Warner Cable's Wisconsin on Demand Channel 411, with new episodes posted Fridays.

CBS airs its first season premiere tomorrow night, when "Survivor" is back for its eleventy-billionth season.

But like the other big networks, next week is the big launch pad for new shows and season premieres.

The two things to watch for on the network is the reception given to the Sept. 20 premiere of "Hawaii Five-O," and the Sept. 23 season premiere of the well-established "Big Bang Theory" in its new Thursday night slot.

"Hawaii Five-0" isn't so much a remake, as it is a re-imagining of the 1960s show. The big question there is why CBS, seen here on Channel 58, didn't just come up with a new Hawaii-based cop show?

As for "Big Bang," it's taking on NBC's well-established Thursday night comedy lineup, going head-t0-head with "Community" in the 7 p.m. half-hour.

A DVR could be a necessity for Thursdays.

Here is CBS' fall premiere schedule (be aware that schedules can change at the last minute):

  • Wednesday: 7 p.m., "Survivor."
  • Monday, Sept. 20: 7 p.m., "How I Met Your Mother;" 7:30 p.m., "Rules of Engagement;" 8 p.m., "Two and a Half Men;" 8:30 p.m., "Mike & Molly;" 9 p.m., "Hawaii Five-O."
  • Tuesday, Sept. 21: 7 p.m., "NCIS;" 8 p.m., "NCIS: Los Angeles." (two hours.)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 22: 8 p.m., "Criminal Minds;" 9 p.m., "The Defenders."
  • Thursday, Sept. 23: 7 p.m., "The Big Bang Theory;" 7:30," "$#*! My Dad Says;" 8 p.m., "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation;" 9 p.m., "The Mentalist."
  • Friday, Sept. 24: 7 p.m., "Medium;" 8 p.m., "CSI: NY;" 9 p.m., "Blue Bloods."
  • Saturday, Sept. 25: 7 p.m., "Crimetime Saturday;" 8 p.m., "Crimetime Saturday;" 9 p.m., "48 Hours Mystery."
  • Sunday, Sept. 26: 6:30 p.m, "60 Minutes;" 7:30 p.m., "Amazing Race;" 9 p.m., "Undercover Boss."
  • Tuesday, Sept. 28: "The Good Wife."
  • Sunday, Oct. 3: 7 p.m., "The Amazing Race" (time period premiere); 8 p.m., "Undercover Boss" (time period premiere); 9 p.m., "CSI: Miami."

A CBS show to watch: It hasn't gotten the buzz of either "Hawaii Five-O" or William Shatner's "$#*! My Dad Says," but Tom Selleck's new "Blue Bloods" could be the one to watch on CBS.

Tim Cuprisin is the media columnist for OnMilwaukee.com. He's been a journalist for 30 years, starting in 1979 as a police reporter at the old City News Bureau of Chicago, a legendary wire service that's the reputed source of the journalistic maxim "if your mother says she loves you, check it out." He spent a couple years in the mean streets of his native Chicago, and then moved on to the Green Bay Press-Gazette and USA Today, before coming to the Milwaukee Journal in 1986.

A general assignment reporter, Cuprisin traveled Eastern Europe on several projects, starting with a look at Poland after five years of martial law, and a tour of six countries in the region after the Berlin Wall opened and Communism fell. He spent six weeks traversing the lands of the former Yugoslavia in 1994, linking Milwaukee Serbs, Croats and Bosnians with their war-torn homeland.

In the fall of 1994, a lifetime of serious television viewing earned him a daily column in the Milwaukee Journal (and, later the Journal Sentinel) focusing on TV and radio. For 15 years, he has chronicled the changes rocking broadcasting, both nationally and in Milwaukee, an effort he continues at OnMilwaukee.com.

When he's not watching TV, Cuprisin enjoys tending to his vegetable garden in the backyard of his home in Whitefish Bay, cooking and traveling.
