Local manufacturer Briggs & Stratton has extended its sponsorship of Summerfest and the Henry Maier Festival Park for another 10 years, though 2010.

Briggs first came to Summerfest in 1997, taking over the stage area formerly sponsored by Old Style.

Part of the deal is that Briggs & Stratton and Summerfest will collaborate on renovating the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard area, as part of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc.'s two-year, $25 million renovation project.

The makeover -- already under way and expected to be completed in time for Summerfest 2011 -- include a stage and a new two-story structure with food and beverage at ground level and a covered VIP deck on top. Nearby will be a new South Gate and box office, along with restaurants, restrooms, beer stands, merchandise areas and walkways.

"We are very pleased to be continuing our relationship with Briggs & Stratton and appreciate their sponsorship commitment in this event, festival park and our community," stated Don Smiley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. "They share our vision of providing customers with quality and a world-class music experience."

Summerfest 2011 is slated for for June 30-July 10.
