I TIVOed “CMT at Summerfest” last night on Country Music Television and, I must say, it made Milwaukee and Summerfest look great.  Too often many take Summerfest for granted since it’s such a fixture and institution in our city. Seeing it from a bit of an “outsider” view on CMT makes you remember just how great The Big Gig is for our city.

CMT brought a full-scale production crew from June 30 to July 2 to Summerfest to shoot and produce the show.

Filmed at the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse, the first segment one-hour featured Dierks Bentley. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams, Jr. headline the other two shows.  Check out the Skynyrd show at 10 p.m. on Fri., July 21.

The broadcast programs will premier July 14-16 and run multiple times. In addition, the "CMT Top 20 Countdown," with host Lance Smith, will be filmed from the Summerfest grounds. In total, the partnership will deliver over 36 hours of national airtime, all originated at and featuring Summerfest.

CMT’s Web site describes the show like this, “For the last 39 years, fans have congregated in Milwaukee, Wis., for 11 straight days of live concerts celebrating the best of music from all genres. For the first time, CMT presents three one-hour concert specials highlighting the greatest performances from country music's elite.”

Need to be reminded how cool Summerfest is?  Or, just want to relive some of the country gigs from 2006?  Check out “CMT at Summerfest.”
